June Newsletter: Celebrating Awareness and Promoting Health

Welcome to our June newsletter! This month is packed with important awareness campaigns and opportunities to support your health and wellbeing. Here’s what’s happening:

Pride Month

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities and advocate for equality and acceptance. At our practice, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all our patients and staff. If you have any concerns or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

SANDS Awareness Month

Trigger warning: infant loss

Every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during, or after birth. SANDS Awareness Week highlights the support available for bereaved families. If you or someone you know has been affected by baby loss, help is available here: www.sands.org.uk.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)

CHD affects 2.3 million people in the UK and is a leading cause of premature death. Simple lifestyle changes—like eating healthily, staying active, and quitting smoking—can reduce your risk. If you’re aged 40–75, book your free NHS Health Check to assess your heart health: www.nhs.uk/conditions/nhs-health-check.

Volunteers’ Week (1st–7th June)

A huge thank you to all our volunteers! Your dedication makes a real difference. If you’re interested in volunteering, now is a great time to get involved.

Men’s Health Week (9th–15th June)

Men’s Health Week encourages men to prioritise their wellbeing. Did you know that suicide is the biggest cause of death for men under 35? If you’ve been putting off a GP visit, now is the time to book an appointment. Learn more: www.menshealthforum.org.uk.

Carers’ Week (9th–15th June)

Are you an unpaid carer? Let us know so we can support your health while you care for others. This year’s theme is Caring About Equality, highlighting the challenges carers face. Find resources here: www.carersuk.org.

Diabetes Week (10th–16th June)

If you have diabetes, regular check-ups are essential to manage your health. Book your appointment today to stay on top of your care. Learn more: www.diabetes.org.uk.

Bike Week (10th–16th June)

Cycling boosts physical and mental health while helping the environment. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, consider hopping on a bike this week!

World Blood Donor Day (14th June)

Blood stocks in the UK are critically low. If you’re healthy and aged 17–65, you could save a life by donating blood. Book an appointment: www.blood.co.uk.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week (19th–24th June)

Cervical screening saves lives by detecting HPV early. If you’re aged 25–64 and have a cervix, please attend your screening when invited. It’s a quick, life-saving test.

Armed Forces Day (28th June)

We salute our Armed Forces community! If you’re a veteran or currently serving, let us know so we can tailor your care to your needs.

World Allergy Week (29th June–5th July)

Learn to recognise the signs of anaphylaxis (ABC: Airway, Breathing, Circulation) and how to respond in an emergency. For more info: www.nhs.uk/conditions/anaphylaxis.
